AMAC Launches Helpline for Gender-Based Violence Support

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has introduced an emergency intervention helpline for victims and witnesses of gender-based violence (GBV) to encourage reporting and provide urgent support. Loveth Izekor, the Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the AMAC Chairman, announced the initiative during a press conference in Abuja, emphasizing the need to move beyond awareness to practical intervention.
The helpline offers a confidential channel for reporting cases and accessing security, legal, healthcare, and other support services. Izekor urged community members, including traditional and religious leaders, to actively participate in preventing and reporting abuse.
The initiative aims to disseminate information on various forms of abuse and women's rights across AMAC's 12 wards. It collaborates with organizations such as the Nigeria Police Force Gender Desk, FIDA, NAPTIP, and NSCDC to enhance prevention and support for victims.
Izekor called for grassroots engagement to ensure that information reaches those in need.
