Bauchi Police Arrest Father for Chaining Son for 17 Years

On February 16, 2026, at 1:30 PM, the Bauchi State Police Command arrested a 72-year-old man named Malam Muhammad Lawan for allegedly chaining his 40-year-old biological son for 17 years in Shadawanka Village, located on the outskirts of Bauchi Local Government Area. The police responded to a distress call regarding the inhumane treatment of the victim.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of B Division, along with officers from the police response special patrol unit, arrived at the scene and discovered the victim helplessly chained by his right leg inside a room. Following the discovery, Lawan was taken into custody, and the victim was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The police have assured the public that the case is under investigation and that the perpetrator will be brought to justice.
