Bauchi Police Recover N2.26m Stolen Roofing Materials

The Bauchi State Police Command announced the arrest of a suspected thief, Muktari Rufa’i, and the recovery of stolen roofing materials valued at N2.26 million. The incident involved a case of alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, and theft that occurred in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.

The police received a complaint on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m. from a 35-year-old resident of Gandunwambai, Azare, who reported that unknown individuals had broken into his shop along Kano Road and stolen 460 metres of stonecut roofing sheets. Following the report, detectives from the Azare Divisional Police Headquarters were deployed to the scene.

Acting on credible intelligence, they intercepted the stolen materials along Azare–Jama’are Road and arrested Rufa’i, who confessed to the crime and identified another suspect, Evra Pizo, who is currently on the run. Rufa’i remains in police custody, and the case will be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
