Bauchi poly shut down as students protest over robbery

The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi was forced to shut down after students staged a protest following a robbery incident in the student hostel. The attack by suspected armed robbers left several students injured and their belongings stolen.

The incident occurred in the Dass Park Gwallameji community, which has been prone to security challenges, including armed robbery and theft. The protest began peacefully but turned violent when suspected hoodlums tried to disrupt it, leading to clashes with the police who fired tear gas.

The students expressed frustration over the management's alleged failure to protect them. The Polytechnic management ordered the immediate closure of academic activities in response to the incident and student protests.

The institution's Public Relations Officer emphasized the seriousness of the security situation and reassured that efforts were being made to address it.
