Bauchi Polytechnic Aims for Regional Hub in Technical Education

The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, is working to expand access to quality technical education through Open, Distance and Flexible E-Learning (ODFEL), with the goal of becoming a leading technology education center in the North-East and one of the best in Nigeria. Rector Sani Usman, represented by Deputy Rector Dr. Usman Yusuf Dutse, emphasized the importance of flexible learning in modern education during a capacity-building workshop for staff.
The initiative is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which encourages institutions to adopt flexible learning systems to meet the demand for skilled manpower. ODFEL aims to benefit individuals unable to attend conventional classes, particularly women in rural areas and working professionals.
Usman noted that successful implementation requires interactive learning materials, digital resources, and strong quality-assurance mechanisms. The polytechnic intends to develop into a regional hub for flexible technical education, leveraging its established skills-development center and Management Information System (MIS) center.
