Albarka Radio Demands Suspension of DPO Over Assault

Albarka Radio, managed by Dauda Ciroma, has demanded the suspension of Division Police Officer (DPO) Jamilu Kabir from the Bununu division of the Bauchi State Police Command due to an alleged assault on one of its reporters during the Sallah celebrations. The incident, which reportedly involved a brutal attack by the DPO and his team in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, has been condemned by various media and civil society organizations, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the West Africa Editors Society.

Ciroma described the assault as a "vicious, unprovoked, dehumanizing" act that undermines press freedom, a fundamental aspect of democracy. The Bauchi State Police Command, represented by Commissioner Sani Omolori Aliyu, has promised an investigation while urging the suspension of the DPO pending the outcome.

The incident has raised concerns about the treatment of journalists and the need for accountability within the police force.
