Bauchi Health Officials Push for Tetanus Elimination Efforts

Stakeholders in the Bauchi State health sector convened a Maternal, Neonatal and Tetanus Elimination (MNTE) media engagement at the MHWUN Secretariat in Bauchi, advocating for increased public awareness, immunization, and community involvement to combat maternal and neonatal tetanus. Mohammed Ribado Jibrin, State Health Education Officer of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, stated the meeting aimed to provide stakeholders with accurate information on MNTE and enhance public health education.

He urged media practitioners to disseminate credible health information, particularly targeting women of reproductive age. Nasiru Shuabu, State Immunisation Officer, highlighted symptoms of tetanus and stressed the importance of immunization, hygienic childbirth practices, and proper umbilical-cord care.

He called on traditional and religious leaders to support awareness campaigns in selected local government areas, which include Ningi, Kirfi, Itas-Gadau, Shira, Giade, Darazo, and Tafawa Balewa. The event was attended by local government representatives, including Garba Musa and Hon. Saleh Hodi Jibir.
