Bayelsa State Appoints Pastor Peter Akpe as Deputy Governor

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly confirmed the appointment of Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State on Tuesday. Akpe replaces the late Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on January 30, 2026, after collapsing in his office on December 11, 2025, and subsequently being transferred for advanced medical treatment.

Akpe, who has served as Chief of Staff to Governor Douye Diri, holds a PhD in Administration from the University of Port Harcourt and has a notable public service record, including roles as head of the administrative office of the Deputy Governor and as a commissioner in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly. He is also a part-time lecturer at the Redeemed Christian Bible College and hails from Ebedebiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area.

His appointment follows a parliamentary tradition of recognizing previous service in leadership roles.
