Diri Urges Unity to Resolve Ijaw Youth Congress Crisis

On Tuesday, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State convened a meeting at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall in Yenagoa to address the ongoing leadership crisis within the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC). He called upon faction leaders Jonathan Lokpobiri and Theophilus Alay to set aside their differences and work together for the larger interest of the Ijaw nation.

Diri emphasized the importance of peace and unity, urging the youth leaders to conduct elections in accordance with the IYC's constitution. He stressed that the elections should be free, fair, and transparent, and that the chosen leader must genuinely represent the interests of the Ijaw people.

Diri invited both Lokpobiri and Alay to publicly shake hands as a gesture of reconciliation, highlighting that beyond personal fame and fortune, the focus should be on love and unity among the Ijaw people. He advised the youth leaders to learn from past mistakes and ensure that the IYC elections do not lead to further division.
