Bayelsa State Intensifies Fight Against Illicit Drugs

During the 42nd State Security Council meeting held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri emphasized the government's commitment to combating illicit drug peddling and criminal activities. He announced plans to demolish structures identified as drug dealer hideouts, particularly in the Aboki Quarter of Yenizu Gene.

The governor instructed security agencies to ensure the demolition of these locations, asserting that the government will not tolerate environments that facilitate drug abuse, which harms vulnerable youth. The governor's remarks followed a visit to the area, where he witnessed the impact of drug-related activities.

Additionally, Deputy High Commissioner Gill Lever from the British High Commission visited to assess the partnership between the British government and Bayelsa State, which focuses on crime prevention, youth empowerment, and vocational training. Over the past three years, the partnership has trained 200 youths in vocational skills to promote self-reliance and reduce crime.
