Bayelsa Governor Diri Appoints New Deputy Governor Akp

On December 11, 2025, Governor Diri of Bayelsa State appointed his Chief of Staff, Akp, as the new Deputy Governor after the passing of former Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The Bayelsa State House of Assembly approved this appointment during a plenary session on Tuesday, where Speaker Abraham Ingober read the governor's letter.

Governor Diri briefly addressed the assembly, urging members to honor the late Ewhrudjakpo. Akp, who is also a pastor in charge of RCCG Province 1 in Yenagoa, has a significant political history, having held various roles in the Bayelsa State civil service and legislature, including being the Deputy Chief of Staff and a major leader in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
