Peter Akp Appointed New Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State

Peter Akp has been confirmed as the new deputy governor of Bayelsa State by the state house assembly, following his nomination by Governor Douye Diri. This appointment comes after the vacancy created by the death of former deputy governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away in December 2025.

Akp, a clergyman ordained in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has served as the chief of staff to the governor and has a background in public service and academia. He was born in Bayelsa State and hails from Sagbama Local Government Area.

Akp's educational journey includes a master's degree and a doctorate in educational management from Rivers State University. His career has included roles as a lecturer at Niger Delta University and as a two-term member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

He is recognized for his commitment to public service and grassroots political engagement.
