Two Arrested for Attempted Theft of Solar Streetlights

In Bayelsa, two individuals were arrested for attempting to steal solar streetlights, a significant public infrastructure project aimed at enhancing community development. The suspects, identified as Ayebademon Peremobowei and Pere John, were caught in the act by a local hunter who raised the alarm.

The arrest was confirmed by Musa Moham, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the state police command headquarters in Yenagoa. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) had installed 100 solar streetlights in the area, which are now at risk due to ongoing vandalism and theft.

This incident highlights the recurring challenges of theft and vandalism of public infrastructure in the region, which hampers development efforts and leaves communities in darkness.
