Bayelsa University Appoints Gbaramatu Monarch as Chair

The Niger Delta University (NDU) in Bayelsa State inaugurated His Royal Majesty Oboro Gbaraun II, Aketekpe Agadagba, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, as the Chairman of the Advisory Council for its Institute for Niger Delta Studies. The inauguration took place on Monday in Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, located in the Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Allen Agih conducted the ceremony, emphasizing that the Council is tasked with providing strategic guidance for the Institute's research and development activities, focusing on environmental, socio-economic, and cultural challenges in the Niger Delta region. The council was formally constituted during the event, which included traditional rulers, academics, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders.

Ambassador Godknows Bolade Igali, the National President of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, will serve as Co-Chairman, with Professor Agih as an ex-officio member. Other members include Ambassador Lawson Esaimu Ayakoroma and His Royal Majesty King Stephen Oyabebefa Ebikeme.
