Emir Bayero Plans Eid-el-Kabir Durbar for May 2026

Emir Aminu Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, has formally notified the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding the planning of the Eid-el-Kabir Durbar festival, which is set to take place on May 27, 2026, at Nasarawa Palace in Kano. The notification was communicated through a letter dated May 17, 2026, addressed to Ibrahim Bakori, the Kano State Commissioner of Police.

A copy of the letter was made available to the media on Friday and was signed by Abdullahi Kwaru, the private secretary to the Emir. The decision to hold the Durbar follows a meeting with members of the Kano Emir Council, which indicated that the festival is an important annual cultural event.

The Emir's letter assured the security agencies of a peaceful conduct of the three-day event and appealed for their usual cooperation and support. The Durbar is a traditional celebration that allows the Emir and council members to greet the public while mounted on horseback, showcasing royal paraphernalia.
