Zulte Waregem Signs Maliq Omotayo from Ikorodu City

Belgian club Zulte Waregem has completed the signing of Nigerian teenage winger Maliq Omotayo from Ikorodu City, successfully beating competition from several European clubs, including Barcelona. Transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri reported that the deal was finalized after Omotayo passed his medical.
The 18-year-old became eligible to sign a professional contract in Europe on August 17. Zulte Waregem had been tracking Omotayo's progress at Ikorodu City and invited him for a trial, where he impressed the coaching staff and received a contract offer.
Omotayo leaves Ikorodu City after a notable performance in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League, making nine appearances, scoring once, and providing one assist. He also contributed to Ikorodu City’s run to the President Federation Cup final.
Omotayo developed at Lagos-based Imperial FC before moving to Ikorodu City. He is expected to join Jong Essevee, Zulte Waregem’s U23 side, to continue his development in Belgian football.
