Benin City Wins $1M Bloomberg Innovation Prize

Benin City, the capital of Edo State, has been awarded a $1 million Bloomberg Innovation Prize through the Bloomberg Mayor's Challenge. This recognition places Benin City among the top four African cities selected from a pool of 600 entries worldwide.

The announcement was made by Patrick Akher, the Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor. The award underscores the city's innovative practices in addressing public challenges, particularly in healthcare delivery.

Mondai Okpebholo, the Governor of Edo State, described this recognition as a testament to the government's commitment to strengthening healthcare systems across the state. He congratulated the Edo State Ministry of Health and the team behind the initiative, emphasizing that the award reflects the state's growing reputation as a hub for forward-thinking governance and public sector reform.
