Benin Monarch Supports Tinubu's 2027 Re-election Bid

On September 16, 2026, Oba Ewuare II, the Benin monarch, expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election campaign during a visit from Abdulaziz Yari, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress. The Oba called for continuity in governance, stating that change for its own sake is unnecessary, while clarifying that his stance should not be seen as partisan.

He emphasized the need for collaboration among political leaders, including both the ruling party and the opposition, and cautioned against excessive criticism of political figures. Yari, representing the campaign council, highlighted the economic progress under Tinubu's administration, noting an increase in Nigeria's GDP growth from 2.7% in 2023 to 3.9% and a decrease in inflation from 22.9% to 15.9%.

Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, also supported Tinubu's re-election, advocating for fairness in allowing the South a second term.
