CAN Benue State Declares Apolitical Stance for 2027 Elections

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Benue State, represented by Deputy Chairman Rev. Jonathan Terwas Ugbed, announced on Friday that it has not endorsed any politician for the upcoming 2027 elections.

This declaration was made during a meeting of the state executive council held at the secretariat in Makurdi. Rev.

Ugbed emphasized that the association remains committed to its spiritual responsibilities rather than engaging in partisan politics. He noted that while politicians and traditional rulers may seek prayers, individuals vying for elected positions are not considered based on their political platforms.

The association encourages the church in Benue to continue supporting prayer for the success of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, commending his projects that directly impact the lives of the people. Additionally, Rev.

Ugbed highlighted the governor's support for the church, including sponsoring medical treatment for members of the Christian community. Other leaders, including Bishop Innoc Uzua and Rev.

Dr. Philip Gire, echoed this sentiment, praising the governor's development efforts.
