CAN in Benue State Affirms Apolitical Stance Amid Claims

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Benue State, represented by Rev. Jonathan Ugbed, has firmly stated that it will not engage in politics. During a ceremony where he received a certificate of commendation from the Middle Belt Media Practitioners and the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Makurdi, Ugbed reiterated that CAN is not a political platform and does not advance partisan interests.

He clarified that while individual Christians may belong to different political parties, the association itself remains neutral and does not endorse any political candidates. Ugbed dismissed claims that pastors had endorsed politicians, stating that such reports were misleading.

He emphasized that no individual or group could speak on behalf of CAN without proper authorization. The association's primary role is spiritual, focusing on prayer and constructive engagement rather than public attacks.

Ugbed was recognized for his contributions to peace and justice in Benue State, receiving an award for his leadership in promoting interfaith dialogue and harmony among religious groups.
