Benue Assembly Rejects Governor’s Commissioner Nominees Over Disrespect

The Benue State House Assembly has rejected Governor Hyacinth Alia's nominees for commissioner positions, citing the governor's alleged disrespect for the legislature. During a plenary session presided over by Speaker Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, members declined to screen and confirm the nominees.

The decision came after a motion of urgent public importance was moved by Hon Shimapever Jiji, who accused the governor of disregarding resolutions passed by the Assembly. Hon Thomas Dugeri seconded the motion, emphasizing the need for the governor to show respect to the legislative chamber.

The Assembly demanded that the governor address pressing issues raised by lawmakers and meet agreed conditions before the nominees can be screened. Speaker Terver Zamber stated that the House will only entertain correspondence from the governor's office once these demands are met.
