Benue Assembly Reverses Decision, Confirms Ornguga As Commissioner

The Benue State House of Assembly has reversed its decision and confirmed Ornguga as a commissioner after initially rejecting his nomination. The new Speaker, Alfred Berger, read a fresh letter from Governor Hyacinth Alia urging the House to clear Ornguga and five other nominees.

Despite earlier objections and petitions, the lawmakers ultimately confirmed Ornguga without a voice vote during Tuesday's plenary session. In a surprising twist, the Assembly also took a decisive step to end the three-month alleged impeachment attempt against Governor Alia, moved by a lawmaker representing Kyan State Constituency and seconded by another member.

Notably, the former Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, who had been suspended and later resigned, had his suspension reviewed by Speaker Berger during the session. These decisions were made without the usual voting procedure.
