Benue Assembly Suspends Auditor-General Over N4.6bn Fraud

The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended Abraham Gberidy, the Local Government Auditor-General, due to allegations of financial misconduct involving N4.6 billion. The suspension was disclosed in a statement issued by Michael Zape, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Berger Emberga, on Thursday.

Governor Hyacinth Alia notified the lawmakers through a letter, emphasizing that Gberidy's continued hold on office was untenable given the serious allegations of financial irregularities against him. The assembly reportedly gave unanimous approval for the suspension to enable a thorough investigation into the allegations.

In addition to this matter, the assembly passed a bill for the creation and adoption of official Benue State symbols and an anthem, alongside other legislative considerations, including the repeal of the Benue State Sports Lottery Board Law of 2017.
