Zamfara Assembly Suspends Two LG Chairmen for Misappropriation

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended two local government council chairmen, Mu Azu Haidara of Kaura Namoda and Umar Faru of Bukkuyum, over allegations of financial misappropriation. This action was taken during a plenary session on Wednesday, where a report from the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs was presented by Deputy Speaker Adamu Aliyu Gumm.

The committee's recommendations were unanimously adopted by the lawmakers. The suspensions were prompted by the chairmen's failure to honor an invitation to explain their expenditures of allocated funds.

Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki Kurya emphasized that their absence constituted a serious breach of conduct. The suspensions take immediate effect and will remain in place pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into the financial activities of the state's 14 local government councils for the 2025 fiscal year.

The Assembly has directed that disciplinary actions be taken against the chairmen and their vice chairmen without delay.
