Five Rescued in Benue Kidnapping; 13 Still Captive

In a recent incident in Benue, a total of 18 passengers, including a driver, were abducted, with three managing to escape and five rescued by police, leaving 13 still in captivity. The police confirmed that the rescue operation took place on Friday morning, bringing the total number of rescued individuals to five.

The operation is being coordinated by the police in Otukpo, with tactical teams, including the Inspector General of Police's intelligence response team and the anti-kidnap unit, actively involved. The police expressed confidence that the remaining victims would be rescued soon.

It was clarified that earlier reports suggesting that all abducted individuals were candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) were inaccurate, as the driver had picked up passengers along the road. The police assured residents that security operations would continue until all victims are freed and the perpetrators are apprehended.
