Thirteen Killed in Benue Bandit Attack; Police Respond

The Benue State Police Command confirmed that a deadly attack by suspected bandits in Efeyi community, Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area, resulted in the deaths of thirteen individuals and the theft of twenty cattle. The attack occurred early on Tuesday morning, with residents initially reporting fifteen fatalities.

However, police investigations verified that thirteen people were killed. The attackers aimed to rustle cattle belonging to a local resident, Peter Ambulus.

During their escape, they opened fire on farmers in the area. In response, Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu led a coordinated clearance operation, during which police operatives were attacked but successfully repelled the assailants.

The operation resulted in the neutralization of two bandits and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle along with fifteen rounds of ammunition. The police are continuing efforts to apprehend fleeing suspects and recover the stolen cattle, assuring residents of ongoing measures to restore peace and security.
