Armed Bandits Kill Four Police Officers, Seven Villagers

On September 12, 2026, the Benue State Police Command confirmed the deaths of at least 11 individuals, comprising four mobile police officers and seven villagers, during an attack in Ayilamo community, Tombo Ward, Logo Local Government Area, Benue State. The attack, described by locals as unprovoked, involved over 200 armed bandits who stormed the community from Amaafu Road in Taraba State around 2 AM, engaging in a gun duel with police officers.

Despite the police's efforts to repel the attackers, four mobile policemen were later found dead in the bush, along with eight deceased residents. This incident marks the second attack within a month resulting in the deaths of mobile policemen in Ayilamo.

Residents have called for government intervention to secure their community. Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu characterized the attack as unfortunate.
