Benue State Investigates Suspected Mpox Case in Konshisha

The Benue State Government has commenced an investigation following a suspected case of Mpox reported in the Konshisha Local Government Area. Dr.

Paul Ogwuche, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, announced this on Saturday, detailing that the Ministry of Health activated its disease surveillance mechanism and sent health officials to the Tyokula Achihi residence in Korinya for assessment. He cautioned residents against assuming that every case of fever and skin rash is Mpox, as these symptoms can arise from various illnesses.

Laboratory analysis is necessary for a definitive diagnosis. The Director of Public Health was instructed to coordinate with the State Epidemiologist and deploy the Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer (DSNO) to conduct on-site assessments and collect clinical samples.

Currently, no Mpox outbreak has been confirmed in Benue State. The ministry is collaborating with the NCDC, Federal Ministry of Health, WHO, and other partners to enhance surveillance and response efforts.

Residents were urged to report any concerning symptoms to health facilities and avoid spreading unverified information.
