Benue State Bans Extra Lessons as Schools Resume

On Monday, the Benue State Government issued a warning to school proprietors, principals, and heads of schools against violating approved education policies as the 2026/2027 academic session begins. Dr. Mrs. Margaret Ijaguwa Adamu, the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, urged all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and learners, to commit to improving educational outcomes.

The government prohibited the use of unauthorized textbooks, compulsory extra lessons, and various forms of misconduct, including bullying and the unauthorized use of mobile phones. Parents were cautioned against abusing teachers and were advised to address grievances through proper channels.

The government mandated that no external organizations could conduct activities in schools without authorization. Additionally, the ministry plans to enhance monitoring and supervision of schools, warning that non-compliance with directives would lead to sanctions.

School heads are instructed to prioritize teaching, maintain discipline, and ensure that students can recite the state and national anthems during school assemblies.
