Nigeria Enhances School Security for New Academic Year

As the 2026/2027 academic session approaches, the Federal Government of Nigeria, alongside state governments, has introduced enhanced security measures for schools to ensure the safety of learners, teachers, and educational facilities. The Federal Ministry of Education announced that security agencies would increase vigilance around Federal Unity Colleges and their surrounding communities, with the resumption scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2026.

The ministry reassured students, parents, and stakeholders that necessary arrangements are in place for a safe commencement of the academic year. Education Minister Boriowo Folasade urged parents and guardians to remain calm and rely on official channels for information.

Additionally, school authorities were directed to maintain close contact with security agencies. In Lagos State, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Jamiu Alli-Balogun emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in reporting security concerns.

The government aims to make the safety and well-being of all school community members a collective responsibility.
