Benue State Bans Phones and Extra Lessons in Schools

The Benue State Government has enacted new regulations for schools, banning mobile phones during school hours, extra lessons after regular hours, and unauthorized access by individuals or organizations. Mrs. Margaret Adamu, the State Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, announced these policies at a press conference in Makurdi.

The new academic session is set to commence on Monday, September 7, 2026. The commissioner emphasized the need for a commitment to quality education and strict adherence to government policies.

She condemned bullying and warned against parents assaulting or intimidating school staff. The policies aim to protect learners, alleviate financial burdens on parents, and improve school discipline and management.

Non-compliance with these directives will result in sanctions, and school authorities are expected to familiarize themselves with all relevant Ministry directives. The Ministry will enhance monitoring and supervision to ensure effective implementation of these policies across schools in the state.
