Gunmen Kill Monarch and Four Others in Benue Attack

On Thursday night, gunmen raided the residence of a monarch in Benue, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including the monarch and his wife. The attackers arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire on the family members present.

Residents, who spoke anonymously, reported that the assailants blended into the community by exchanging greetings in the local dialect, which led to no immediate suspicion. The attack lasted approximately 20 minutes, during which the gunmen also moved to a nearby compound, killing two additional individuals.

One person sustained injuries during the incident. Melvin Ejeh, the chairman of the Agatu local government area, confirmed the attack and the fatalities.

Security personnel, including police, visited the scene following the incident. Udem Edet, a police public relations officer, stated that she had not yet received detailed information regarding the attack.
