Traditional Ruler and Family Killed in Benue Attack

In a tragic incident in Benue State, Chief Momo Awodi, a traditional ruler, was killed alongside his wife Abigail and their son Boniface Ochowechi during a fresh attack by gunmen on Thursday night. The attack took place in the Agatu Local Government Area, where the assailants arrived on motorcycles and launched an assault on the monarch's residence.

Local sources reported that the attack lasted nearly 20 minutes, during which the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic among residents. Melvin Ejeh, the chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, stating that five people were killed and one person sustained injuries.

The police spokesperson for Benue State, DSP Udem Edet, indicated that she had not yet received official details regarding the attack. The incident has raised concerns about security in the region, particularly regarding the identity of the assailants, who were not identified as Fulani.
