Otukpo Residents Promote Exclusive Breastfeeding Campaign

On August 4, 2026, Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State organized a road walk and community sensitization campaign to promote exclusive breastfeeding. The event aimed to educate residents on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding.

Two mothers, Mrs Aisha Okwa and Madam Ene Ogoli One, shared their positive experiences with breastfeeding, highlighting its importance for child health. Mrs Okwa, who gave birth the previous day, emphasized that exclusive breastfeeding contributed to the health of her older children.

Maxwell Ogiri, the Otukpo Local Government Chairman, praised UNICEF for its support and committed to ongoing partnerships for the campaign. Mrs Ene Omale, the Nutrition Focal Person for Otukpo, explained the benefits of colostrum, the first milk, in preventing infections and promoting healthy growth.

The campaign coincided with the official launch of the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week by the Benue State Primary Health Care Board and the State Ministry of Health and Human Services, bringing together various stakeholders dedicated to improving maternal and child nutrition.
