Benue: Yelwata residents protest as gunmen kill 3 on farmland

Residents of Yelwata in Benue protested after gunmen killed three people on a farmland, marking the latest attack in the area where over 100 residents were massacred just two months ago. The assailants struck on Monday, with locals revealing that the victims were from a family that had already lost 19 members in the June 13 massacre.

The incident prompted angry residents to block a highway in protest, demanding more protection from the government. Yelwata's youth leader Achii Mathias reported that the attackers likely slept within the community before carrying out the early morning strike.

The village head, Zaki Julius Joor, confirmed the deaths, with the police also confirming the attack and the arrest of suspects. President Tinubu had previously directed security agencies to end the violence in the region, with numerous arrests made and suspects facing trial.
