NIHSA Warns of Flood Risks in 11 Nigerian States

On Thursday, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) issued a warning regarding possible flooding in 11 states, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Edo, Imo, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and Borno, within the next seven days. The agency announced a medium flood advisory for these states, highlighting specific localities at risk of inundation along major river channels.

For instance, Adamawa's exposure includes 147 communities, 49 schools, 40 health facilities, 17 markets, and 6 religious sites. In Bauchi, 4 communities are at risk, while Kaduna has 6 communities exposed.

Borno's warning includes 680 communities, 8 schools, 6 health facilities, 5 markets, and 21 religious sites. NIHSA advised residents in flood-prone areas to avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges, to clear drainage channels, and to relocate people and livestock to higher ground.
