Adeleke Wins Re-election as Osun Governor in 2026

Ademola Adeleke was re-elected as Governor of Osun State on August 15, 2026, in an election that took place without crisis across all 30 local government areas. This contrasted sharply with the pre-election period, which saw reports of violence against political opponents.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cleared 14 political parties for the election, but the main contest was between Adeleke of the Accord Party, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress. Adeleke, who had previously been elected in 2022 under the People’s Democratic Party, defected to the Accord Party in November 2025 due to internal crises within the PDP.

His campaign focused on a five-point agenda and his achievements, including the construction of 350 kilometers of roads and improvements in education. Oyebamiji campaigned as a technocrat alternative, while Salaam positioned ADC as a platform for discontented APC/PDP members.

The election was viewed as a significant test for INEC and the police ahead of the 2027 elections.
