Fire Destroys Market and Aluminum Tower in Lagos

Early on Saturday, a fire incident occurred in Lagos, affecting three stories of a commercial building in Yaba and several shops within the Aluminum Village along Abeokuta Expressway. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of highly flammable materials.

Residents, including Mr. Abosed, were awakened by the intense flames and attempted to join others in extinguishing the fire.

Margaret Adesey, a representative of the Lagos State Fire Rescue Service, confirmed the incident and noted that emergency responders acted swiftly to contain the fire. The first incident engulfed part of Aluminum Village in Dopemu, impacting multiple offices and shops within a large commercial complex.

The Ikeja Agege station fire crew responded promptly and successfully controlled the situation. A second fire occurred at 3:15 AM on Oyabiyi Street, opposite the Nigeria Labour Congress office, completely engulfing a three-story building housing shops with textile materials.

Firefighters from Somolu, Ilupeju, and Sari Iganmu stations were mobilized to the scene to prevent the blaze from spreading to adjoining properties. The fire service commended the emergency team's response and emphasized the need for strict adherence to fire safety measures in commercial areas, especially regarding the storage of combustible materials.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incidents.
