Fire Outbreak at Yaba Market in Lagos Destroys Goods

A significant fire outbreak occurred at Yaba Market in Lagos early Saturday morning, reportedly starting around 1 AM. Eyewitnesses claimed that goods worth millions were destroyed as thick smoke and flames engulfed several shops.

Videos circulating on social media depicted the severity of the situation, with traders and residents rushing to salvage their belongings. An eyewitness identified as Lugar Feliz spoke during a TikTok livestream about the incident.

Users on social media, including Olamilekan Iyiola, described the situation as terrible, noting that the fire had completely burnt down shops. Despite the proximity of the Lagos State Fire Service headquarters, which is only a 10-minute walk away, there were claims of inadequate response, with reports of fire trucks lacking water.
