Boko Haram Commander and Fighters Surrender in Borno

On August 21, a commander of the Boko Haram-linked Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction, identified as Ishiaku Agah, along with three fighters—Sulieman Yaga, Iburija Chari, and Ba’ana Modu—and a woman named Falmata Modu surrendered to Nigerian Army troops in Borno State. This event took place in the Kumburi general area of Bama Local Government Area, under the operations of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade as part of Operations Hadin Kai and Desert Sanity V.

The surrender followed intense clashes between JAS and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, as well as ongoing military operations in the region. The military reported that the group arrived from the Bula Daloye area and surrendered around 11 PM.

Troops recovered 358 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the group. The surrendered individuals and the recovered ammunition have been taken into custody for further action, while military operations continue to monitor the area for additional fighters willing to surrender.
