Boko Haram Fighter Surrenders with AK-47 in Borno State

On Thursday, a 23-year-old suspected Boko Haram fighter named Ali Saidiq surrendered to Nigerian troops in Borno State, bringing with him an AK-47 rifle and 26 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition. This event occurred during a stop-and-search operation at the Kwatan Alkama checkpoint, conducted by troops from the 196 Amphibious Battalion and the Nigerian Army Brigade Lake Chad.

Saidiq, a native of Garere in Kukawa Local Government Area, voluntarily handed over the weapon, which had the registration number 02657. Preliminary investigations suggest that he chose to surrender due to sustained military pressure on terrorist elements in the area and a loss of interest in continuing terrorist activities.

His surrender indicates the effectiveness of ongoing military operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and encouraging fighters to abandon terrorism. Saidiq is currently in military custody for profiling and further investigation regarding his role within Boko Haram and connections to other members of the group.

The surrendered weapon and ammunition are secured as investigations proceed.
