Buratai Reveals Boko Haram Financiers Known but Unnamed

Tukur Buratai, the former Chief of Army Staff, revealed that the financiers of Boko Haram are known within certain societal circles but have not been publicly named. He explained that while the Nigerian Army is responsible for addressing these issues, the decision to keep the financiers' identities confidential is due to various reasons, including ongoing investigations.

Buratai also discussed the government's approach to rehabilitating repentant Boko Haram members, which has been in place since 2016, allowing for their surrender and rehabilitation through appropriate agencies. He expressed concerns about the country's security challenges and called for improved intelligence gathering to combat terrorism effectively.

Buratai urged the government to recruit more security personnel to enhance safety across Nigeria. Despite previous announcements by the federal government identifying individuals and entities allegedly funding terrorist activities, many names remain undisclosed, drawing criticism from civil society groups and security analysts who argue that transparency is crucial in the fight against insurgency.
