Boko Haram Attacks Kukawa Military Base, Commanding Officer Killed

On Monday, Boko Haram insurgents launched a coordinated assault on a military base in Kukawa, Borno State, resulting in the death of the commanding officer and several soldiers. The attack occurred around 12:30 AM, with the insurgents approaching the town from different directions.

Sources indicate that the attack successfully dislodged troops from the base, setting military vehicles ablaze and carting away weapons and ammunition. This incident follows a previous successful defense by the military against an earlier assault, which resulted in the deaths of several insurgents.

The local community praised the bravery of the troops, and Karta Maina Ma Aji Lawan, a lawmaker representing Kukawa in the Borno State House of Assembly, commended the soldiers' efforts. The attack has raised renewed concerns about the persistent insurgency in the northeastern region of Nigeria, particularly affecting internally displaced persons in camps like those in Ngosh, located in Gwoza Local Government Area.
