Boko Haram Attack in Borno Kills Army Major and Soldiers

On Sunday, February 6, 2025, Boko Haram launched a deadly attack on a military base located near Banki in Borno State, resulting in the death of an army major, identified as Major U. Mairiga, and several soldiers.

The assault occurred around 0400 hours, with heavy gunfire reported as the insurgents overwhelmed the troops stationed at the forward military position. Security sources indicated that the attack was coordinated and involved members of the Islamic State West Africa Province faction.

Following the assault, personnel reportedly retreated into the surrounding bush amid chaos. The fallen soldiers were transferred to a military hospital in Maiduguri for further medical attention.

This incident adds to a series of recent assaults on military targets in the region, including a prior attack on an army base in Jakana, Kaga Local Government Area, where several soldiers were also killed. The ongoing violence reflects the increasing pressure on security forces in the northeast due to the insurgents' intensified operations.
