Borno Women Call for Acceptance of Returning Children

Women mediators in Borno State raised significant concerns regarding the stigma faced by children returning from captivity, especially those born during the Boko Haram conflict. At the She Builds Peace Campaign 2026 event in Maiduguri, organized by the Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, Agnes Bashir Gadzama emphasized that these children should not be blamed for their circumstances and called for community acceptance to aid their reintegration.

Ya Kime Gado urged landlords to reduce house rents for returning women to facilitate their reintegration. Comrade Hajja Suleiman highlighted the need for justice for individuals unjustly detained during the insurgency, recalling her own experiences of injustice.

Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, Executive Director of the Foundation, noted that peace agreements are more sustainable with women's active participation. The discussions underscored the importance of addressing stigma and promoting community support for returnees to foster peace in Borno.
