Borno Commissioner Sainna Buba Apologizes for Threats

Sainna Buba, the Borno State Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Youth and Sports Development, issued an apology after threatening to "flog" opposition members who do not support the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a video, Buba stated, “The government is our government,” and warned that those who oppose it would face consequences.

Following public outcry, he addressed journalists in Maiduguri, clarifying that his remarks were not meant to harm or violate citizens' rights to freedom of choice and association as outlined in the Nigerian Constitution. Buba formally retracted his statement and apologized to the people of Borno State, emphasizing that his comments do not represent the APC's ideals or the administration of Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

He reassured that the APC and Zulum's administration uphold the rights of citizens and have demonstrated a commitment to democratic principles over the past seven years.
