Wike Critiques Obi on Fuel Subsidy Revenue Management

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, responded to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), regarding the management of revenue from the removal of fuel subsidies. Speaking on Wednesday at a media parley in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike stated that President Bola Tinubu lacks the authority to dictate how state and local governments should utilize the funds they receive from the subsidy removal.

He suggested that Obi should focus on how the additional revenue is being utilized rather than questioning the federal government. Wike noted that the increased allocations have enhanced states' financial capabilities, allowing them to better manage salaries and execute projects, contrasting with previous struggles.

He commended Tinubu for the bold decision to remove the subsidy, a step he claimed previous presidents had avoided, and called for accountability from the states regarding the funds received.
