Borno Governor Zulum Clarifies No Endorsement for Gubio

Dauda Iliya, the media spokesperson for Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, issued a statement on Wednesday clarifying that Governor Zulum did not endorse Mustapha Gubio, a former commissioner for works, as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship race. This clarification came in response to media reports suggesting that Zulum had anointed Gubio during a political engagement in Abuja.

Iliya explained that the governor's actions were part of routine political traditions, which include receiving aspirants and offering prayers for their success, rather than an official endorsement. He emphasized that Zulum remains committed to democratic processes and had previously informed stakeholders about the need for a formal presentation of party candidates.

Mustapha Gubio had earlier picked up the APC nomination form to contest in the upcoming governorship election and had resigned from his cabinet position to declare his interest in the race.
