Borno State Approves N565.7m Examination Subsidy

The Borno State Government has approved a N565.7 million examination subsidy aimed at covering registration fees for students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examinations, and the Senior Islamic Studies Examination (SISE). Mr.

Lawan Abba Wakilbe, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, announced this approval during a presentation to the ministry’s Quality Assurance Office in Maiduguri. The subsidy will benefit students from public secondary schools across Borno State’s 27 local government areas.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum's administration is committed to removing financial barriers to education, currently subsidizing 75% of WASSCE and SISE fees and 70% of NABTEB fees. Since 2019, the government has spent over ₦4.71 billion on examination registration subsidies, aiding 193,963 students.
