Borno Governor Zulum Plans to Reopen Key Waterway

On Saturday, during a visit to Baga Town, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum announced the intention to reopen a crucial waterway linking Nigeria and Chad. This announcement followed a high-level security meeting with military commanders, focusing on strategies to clear the water route that has remained inaccessible due to insurgent activities.

Governor Zulum stated that the clearance exercise would resume soon, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between Nigeria and Chad to facilitate the movement of goods between the two countries. He noted that the waterway serves as a vital economic corridor for the Lake Chad region, which has faced disruptions due to insecurity.

Additionally, the governor revealed plans to support farmers and fishermen in the area by distributing agricultural tools and improved seedlings to boost agricultural productivity. This intervention aims to complement efforts to revive economic activities following the reopening of the waterway.
